Traits that cause Disunity

Adoption of other paths, ways, criteria, instead of what is prescribed by Allah in the Quran:

And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and do not follow other paths, for they will separate you away from His path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).[6:153]

This Book (Quran) which We have revealed is a blessed one. Follow its guidance and have piety so that you perhaps may receive mercy. [6:155]

  • Neglecting a part of the divine Scripture will create animosity and hostility between fellow believers:

They have abandoned a good part of the message that was sent to them. So we planted amongst them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection. [5:14]

Yahdee bihi Allahu mani ittabaAAa ridwanahu subula alssalami wayukhrijuhum mina alththulumati ila alnnoori bi-ithnihi wayahdeehim ila siratin mustaqeemin With [Quran] which God guides to the ways of peace those who follow what pleases Him, bringing them from darkness out into light, by His will, and guiding them to a straight path. [5:16]

  • Rivalry due to envy/selfish transgression is one of the causes of disunity and division among the people:

And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt. [42:14]

  • Disputing with one another is a sign of depriving oneself from of Allah’s Mercy:

If your Lord had wanted to, He would have made mankind into one community but they persist in their differences, except for those your Lord has mercy on. That is what He created them for — so that the Word of your Lord would be fulfilled: ´I will fill up Hell with the jinn and mankind all together.´ [11:118-119] In order to receive mercy follow the Quran [6:155].

It is naive to triviliase and to consider that these characteristics do not play a role in causing disunity amongst the various groups, sects, organisations, leaders and Rulers whether theologically, juristically or politically. History and contemporary times are a testimony to these Quranic facts.

And Allah knows best.
