Israel/Palestine: for the Righteous Believers

The Judeo-Christian Zionist claim that ‘Israel’ belongs to them based on the Bibical claim that God promised the land to Abraham and his descendants.

The Palestinians claim it belongs to them by the simple fact of their continuous residence repeated through birth and possession going back to the earliest Canaanites and even those people living there before recorded history. Regardless of historical assertions, the Qur’an does not maintain the entitlement of the Holy land based on the existence of a people in that land but on the rule of God who says:

And Moses said unto his people: Seek help in God and endure. Lo! The earth is God's. He gives it for an inheritance to whom He will. And lo! The sequel is for those who keep their duty (unto Him). (Quran 7: 128).

Furthermore, [both in the Bible and Quran] God made a conditional promise to humanity: When Abraham’s Lord tested him with certain commandments, which he fulfilled, He said, ‘I will make you a leader of people.’ Abraham asked, ‘And will You make leaders from my descendants too?’ God answered, ‘My pledge does not hold for those who do evil.’ (Quran 2:124)

The Judeo-Christian Zionist, claim that Jehovah (God) promised the whole Land of Palestine exclusively to the Israelites or Jews, as they are the Children of Abraham based on the Bible.

And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. (Genesis 17: 8-9)

However, God mentions in numerous places in the Quran that the Israelites or Jews in the main broke their conditional covenant God made with them, through various transgressions they committed in their religion.  These transgressions, varied from falling in to error and worshipping others besides God, an act which broke the [‘first of the Ten’] Commandments, to changing and interpolating the Torah to their befitting 5:13-14. Out of the Mercy of God, He continued to send prophets to them for their rectification.  Instead of following the Prophets which God sent to them, if they brought something which the Rabbis did not like, they would reject the Prophets and even kill them.  This certainly amounted to 'disbelief' in God, and, due to this, the favor which God had for the Jews was lifted. (Quran 3:112)

The Bible too speaks this fact of the Jews killing the Prophets of God in Romans 11:3, 1 Thessalonians 2:15, and repeated in Acts 7:52. These acts are a clear violation of the commandments of God and thus a breach of covenant with God.

Thus, the Judeo-Christian Zionist claim that God promised the Jewish race[1], the Holy land is baseless.  In fact God prescribed this land for the Believers in all times. He prescribed it for Believers in the era of Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) who was himself a Muslim [one who submitted to God] as were all the Prophets and their true followers. God Says that: "Musa said to his people: "O my people! If you have believed in God, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to God's Will)." (Quran 10:84)

"And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "O my people! Remember the Favour of God to you, when He made Prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other among the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinns, in the past). "O my people! Enter the holy land (Palestine) which God has assigned to you, and turn not back (in flight) for then you will be returned as losers." (Quran 5: 20-21)

Allah (God) ordered them to liberate this holy land because it is land that should not be ruled by the disbelievers who governed with their own ideology or religion in opposition to God’s guidance.

The same thing applies to the contemporary era. The Jews who do not accept both Prophet Jesus and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them) out of pride have rejected divine guidance and thus breached the covenant with God[2] and therefore no longer the “chosen people”. Since, God never promised it to them, they have no right to rule Palestine. Thus, in essence the contemporary Zionist Jews are no better than the people whom Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) expelled from Palestine.

According to the Qur'an, no person, people or religious community can claim a permanent right of possession over any territory. The Earth belongs exclusively to God, and He is free to entrust sovereignty over land to whomever He wills for whatever time period that He chooses.

Say: .O God, O Lord of the Kingdom, You give kingdom/sovereignty to whom You will, and take kingdom/sovereignty away from whom You will; and You bestow honor on whom You will, and bring disgrace to whom You will. In your hand lies the betterment (of everyone). You are surely powerful over everything. [Qur'an 3:26] and We wrote in the Psalms, as We did in [earlier] Scripture: ‘My righteous servants will inherit the earth.’ (Quran 21:105).

Palestine or Israel is the land of the Prophets. So, no disbeliever, Zionist, Jew, Christian, Arab, secularist, nationalist - not even the Muslim has any prerogative or right in governing it with Man-made ideology or religion.

In short, from the point of view of the Qur’an, the real inheritors of the prophetic tradition of Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus, indeed of all the Prophets culminating in Muhammad (peace be upon them all), are potentially the sincere true believers. More than any political or historical claim, as long as these true believers establish God’s religion, this fact alone must establish their right to Palestine/Israel and its 'capital' Jerusalem.

Thus, sooner or later, whenever true believers return to observing God’s commandments; sovereignty, security and autonomy will return to them as God says:

God has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion, that which He has chosen for them. And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me [God] and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, defiantly disobedient to God).(Quran 24: 55).

A point to ponder: do the present day believers fulfil the conditions mentioned in this ayah ('verse') of the Qur’an?

And Allah knows best

For Younger Readers

God teaches in the Quran, the holy book of Muslims that:

  • All Earth belongs to God

  • If fellow 'believers' or those who submit their will to God want to rule Palestine/Israel they must follow God’s guidance.

  • Peace and security can only be achieved if believers (or submitters in God) follow God’s guidance.

  • Muslims must better themselves (and follow God's message) to achieve God’s favour if they truly want peace, security and to rule in the holy land

Rabbi said: …no one should make the mistake of thinking that G-d was choosing one race and their descendants for all time, for better or for worse.  …many Jews have gone lost - left the Torah behind… They may have Jewish blood, but when we speak of the Jewish people we do not mean them.[1]
